That does not change what I think of this story. *I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. Because of the over-arcing storyline that runs through each story, I would strongly suggest reading this series in order if you possibly can. If you love a very good Historical Romance then I would recommend the Duke Dynasty series. I had fun here, and that’s the entire point. In all, Undercover Duke is an emotional, sizzling, heartfelt romance that kept me flipping pages and at the same time, not wanting the story to come to an end. I always love to see previous couples appear throughout a series and it was fun to see everyone back again for a quick catch-up on events in their lives. I cannot say I was surprised by the ending or the reveal of the murderer – but I was caught off guard on the reasons. They worked so well together that it was a joy to watch them work through everything else going on around them to their own happy ending. I liked Sheridan, always have, yet he is so stubborn that there were times that he deserved either a sharp shaking or a stern talking to. I adored Vanessa, for a woman of her time she certainly did her best to outthink Sheridan in the cunning department. I enjoyed myself back in this world again. Or did it, at first? Since Sheridan is determined to get some answers from Vanessa’s mother concerning that ongoing investigation the siblings have about the murders – why not use the daughter’s surprisingly devious plot to not only get answers but to lead a lovely lady away from a man who is truly not the best catch for her… if there is a bit of jealousy in Sheridan’s motives he’s not acknowledging it. If she leads him on a bit with a tall tale of using him to make another unsuitable gentleman jealous, well, it certainly got his attention. Still, on the way to this final discovery, we’re treated to Sheridan finally meeting his match in wit and cunning in the lovely Vanessa who has had her heart set on Sheridan for a very long time now. Undercover Duke will finally point out the murderer of the Dukes, and while many of us may have suspected this particular character I don’t believe I ever expected that “reason” to be behind the crimes. Yet it’s time for Sheridan to find love, even though he doesn’t believe he can or will ever love again after his wife’s death… stubborn man. I have loved the Undercover Duke series throughout all of the siblings finding their perfect matches and I’ll admit that although there may be a novella connection around Christmas, I am a bit bittersweet about this series coming to a conclusion.
